Fedex pending scheduled delivery

This has happened on my most recent 3 FedEx deliveries. It's scheduled to be delivered day X, doesn't arrive, the next day status is changed to Pending and no scheduled delivery date. It's just sitting (AFAIK) at the local FedEx office. Several days later someone gets it on the truck and delivers it.
